Music Monday: Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself by Jess Glynne

Today’s song came by accident. I switched from Rdio to Spotify and discovered this song through a mix. If my 2016 has a theme song, it’s this one. I began making my way forward four days into the new year. I bought a piece of carry-on luggage for New York and spent some time pouring over a guide book at Starbucks.

After taking a course to benefit my current career, I started to take steps in the direction I want to take in my life. Gotham Writers Workshops has an online course in reading fiction from a writer’s perspective. I read blog posts by writers and relied on instinct and past lessons to ask myself why I devoured a novel or short story while another feels like a drag or dropped altogether. My English major skills can only take me so far, and they are from ten years ago.You bet the money the college will reimburse for my Medical Terminology course will go towards this one.

Meanwhile, I sent away an application for Winnipeg Public Library’s Writer Circle program. (If that sounds like a mouthful try writing it.) I have a writer’s group, but this one has set dates for compulsory attendance. I can make the dates, and it will help with the draft that ‘won’ NaNoWriMo in 2014. Remember my prizes, besides a feeling of accomplishment, also includes one rough draft to overhaul. I need more eyes look at work works and what falls apart. It does say previous members will get priority. If I don’t get in, it’s not the end of the world.

I plan to take it easy on myself. Trust me, it took a lot interior work to get this far. Enjoy the toe-tapping advice as sung by Jess Glynne.
